Artist Statement:
There is a certain energy within the city that fascinates me. Seeing the buildings, feeling the vibrations of pedestrians and cars, all going their separate ways but all functioning within this one space we declare the city. It is something you can truly get lost in. The city unifies us all, despite living such different lives as the ones that pass by us on the street. Different buildings and areas hold different meanings to people. It can be your workplace, your home, or the shop you go to every Monday during lunch break. It is the park you hang out at on a sunny day or where you spend time with a lover. It could be your university or the surrounding area in which you roam. It is a place that breeds the arts and humanities. A cinematic wonder piece, a photographic moment, or a lyrical sound.
Having lived in Philadelphia for the last 9 months but without taking the proper time to explore much of the environment in which I dwell, I took a step out of the door and got lost. Practicing mindfulness was a huge part of creating this photographic series, as being present in each moment to take in all of the sights, sounds, and other things allowed opportunities to reveal themselves to me.
